Not only did I find a Hot Wheels R33 Skyline that will sit nicely between the R34 and the R32 as well as the Hako and the Kenmeris, I also got appointed as “Beamter auf Lebenszeit” (think lifelong full tenure), basically meaning that I can never ever be fired until I retire with a nice pension. Yep, today was a good day.

Congrats. Too bad many young teachers here are being screwed over.

Congratulations!
I don’t think such a thing even exists here in the Netherlands (maybe only for university professors). It’s definitely a good thing though, and it sounds like a typical German thing too!

Das is zehr gut! That’s the extent of my German from high school 30 years ago.

That’s why I left Bavaria. Got bored with the half-year contracts and having to file for unemployment gets old too really quick.

Congratulations man! You earned it!

Thanks. And yes, it’s a typically German thing. They vetted me properly before of course. Full health check, present and former political affiliations and so on...

It’s something my German girlfriend just cannot accept. That the “Beamte for life” thing is something not present in (certain) other European countries, including the difference between Rente and Pension. It’s all utterly new to me, despite having worked in public service less than an hour west of Germany and having done an oath and having had certain police-like responsibilities. From my perspective a public servant is an employee just like any other, with the same rights and duties, they just have an employer that’s relatively inflexible.
But regardless, congratulations! This is exactly why you left Munich, right?

I did leave Munich so as not to have to change schools at least once a year with the occasional month of unemployment thrown in. This is my third year at my current school and I can stay as long as I want. The Verbeamtung is just nice to have but not why I initially moved.
